Mint 18.1/RealTek ALC892 no sound (updated) w/driver install error
1 Attachment(s)
Well, no replies to my last post (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...nd-4175598838/).
Brief history: 990FX R2.0 w/ALC892 sound onboard does not output to speakers plugged in but shows the chip to be recognized. PulseAudio also showed this chip but wouldn't produce any sound. ISO image re-install of Mint 18.1 to clean out all the messs I might have created. Installed Skype and connected my USB speakerphone. Got sound to work for this but still no sound for my plugged-in speakers. Tried dwnloading and installing driver from RealTek but encountered errors that I don't have the ability to decipher. Perhaps someone here can... I have attached the terminal text while attempting an install. The word "error" occurs first on line 965 but I don't know is wrong as my skills in SW aren't all that great. Did I miss something obvious? |
From your last post it seems like you have the right driver installed etc.
This is my pactl output I believe it is the same card ? What is your profile in pavucontrol set to? Perhaps it is set to wrong port or device..? I have Linux Mint 18.1 installed ... I will see later if sound works correctly on it later
|
Thanks, Gary.
I did notice something that looked funny with port 0 vs. port 7. Now, with this clean install, there's no sound detected at all - ugh. I can try another re-install if need be. There's no alsamixer or pulseaudio either. |
Okay I'm on my Mint 18.1 box.
There is my output to your other post. I think we even have the same southbridge. I know you were trying to install a driver from RealTek, but I'm running with sound perfectly out of the box, so I'm pretty certain the problem must lie somewhere else. pacmd list-sinks | grep -e 'name:' -e 'index' index: 0 name: <alsa_output.pci-0000_01_00.1.hdmi-stereo> * index: 1 name: <alsa_output.pci-0000_00_14.2.analog-stereo> I don't know alot about sinks, but i find it strange it lists at least 7 sinks. OK... re-install 18.1, perform suggested updates, install media codecs, reboot.
Having the same luck, though. pavuctl shows the HDMI and analog devices (see attached png). lspci and pactl results also attached. I'm not sure how to direct sound/data from one sink to the other to try that. I appreciate your help, Gary. If you want to take further time looking at this, please let me know if you need more information. I'm almost ready to go buy a sound card and try that... |
oops, here's the pactl stuff...

I missed the pavuctl picture, too. sheesh...
Tried plugging in my Jabra (USB) speaker phone. It works and I can direct audio to it from the media player and Firefox. I also noted an asterisk next to "index 1" from a pacmd command, both in your query and mine. hmmm.... |
what is your pactl info output?

I'm wondering if it is pushing audio out a different physical connectiion than the green lineout?
Try putting your speakers into different connectors than the green one? If that doesn't work try killing pulseaudio fuser -k /usr/bin/pulseaudio (you may need to be root?) and then run alsamixer and check that master, pcm, and front are all up and none are muted. Gary |
No outputs to any jack, including the headphones. Killed pulseaudio with sudo. Alsamixer shows all three at 100% and not muted (PCM does not show an option for muting).
