Minor problems left in using Huawei E220 on /dev/ttyUSB0 Suse 10.3

My choice was KPPP after trying wvdial and others with no success. Starting KPPP and fill in the data was easier than finding and editing conf. files. Two problems is still left and with some help it would be nice to have them solved.
When the modem is connected to USB port I have to type an INIT2 line as AT+CPIN=xxxx. The modem then connects to the provider and I get the blue steady light. Before I can use firefox I have to disconnect, remove the line with CPIN and connect again. I get an CME error if not doing that. As long as the modem is connected to a USB port with +5 V I can use KPPP normally.
The other thing is that the modem must have power at the same time or before the computer. Plugging in the modem after computer started will not work. Modem get registred on /dev/ttyUSB0 but KPPP woun't find it.

according to this post....you have a flip flop too but mine differs...you can use the first link if mine scares you

http://wwwu.uni-klu.ac.at/agebhard/HuaweiE220/

the issue appears to be you are looking at the wrong dev as its a flip flop.

I suggest you create an udev rule and use wvdial to use it?

the udev rule....flips the flop or flops the flippie and then gives you a modem...however your wvdial settings will need to change if you go down this path

Thanks a lot for the rapid replay. Gives me an idea where to look for the switch and PIN error. Some scripting seems to be necessary for the PPP configuration. I hope to have time to look into that soon. Before Huawei modem I had a ADSL PPPoE connection via a ZyZEL 650. I still uses that box for my local net but it might interfere with my settings for E220. Will try to look into that too.
