Minimising memory usage
I am currently running Fedora core one (with gnome) on a P3-866 with 192Mb of RAM. This isn't the fastest of PCs but should be ample, as I only use it for networking, web access and office tasks. However it still runs at about 185Mb when doing these things.
In Windows (I know it's not a good way of thinking) I used to shut off all the unecessary services etc to free up resources. Is there anything that can be recommended to free a little up? |
Am no expert but would have though you should be pleased - the more the memory is used the better the computer is functioning. Any memory that isn't being used is just being wasted, as it were. Think this is the Unix philosophy, could be wrong.:)
