minimal linux installation for music computer

I am looking for a small Linux distribution to turn an old notebook (4 years old) into a music computer connected to my stereo.

The machine should be able to connect to a shared network harddisc via wireless LAN, play various music formats (mp3, ogg, ...) and have a web-browser or player for internet radio. Everything else I would like to keep as minimal as possible.

I would like to know which Linux is best suited for me and what application you would recommend.

I am a Linux newbie, I have some experience using it, but none installing it, please keep that in mind when you recommend a distribution.
