minecraft ssh


can i start my minecraft server with putty or i know i can if i write -java -jar minecraftserver.jar but if i close putty the server get down. but can i start it so the computer run it?
i have linux debian 6.0.3

You need to push the process into the background with &, or use something like "screen" to keep the terminal session alive after you disconnect with SSH.

Honestly, the best luck I had was setting my machine to auto log on. Then set the minecraft server to auto run when the computer logs on. I never had luck running it in the background.
