Microsoft USB camera

I am trying to connect a Microsoft USB camera to my Ubuntu 12 system. It shows a picture using Cheese web cam camera but is very poor. Do I need some driver to do this or is there a better program? I am new to Linux and want to use this camera on skype.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide....Norm

Hi:;)

I have a Kodak digital camera and my distro uses "Shotwell" Shotwell Photo Manager does a great job for me.
As soon as I plug my camera into my computer it's recognized immediately.

Fspot is another application that Ubuntu uses for photos and camera recognition. You can give Shotwell a try as well if you like. These applications should be in your Software Center and you should be able to install them using that. If not check with you Synaptic Package Manager and just type in the name of the application in the search; if Synaptic has it you can install it that way as well.

Here's a Ubuntu help page:

Hope this helps
