Microphone setting with Ubuntu on Inspiron 1525 not found

I attempted using Skype, but the microphone just barely record a sound. I
searched the system's Help, but could not find where to set the sensitivity of the microphone. The microphone records loudly and clearly if I bring up Vista to use Skype. I have dual boot.

Here is more information I have just discovered: My Inspiron 1525 uses 82801H (ICH8 Family) from Intel. I failed to find a driver for it on the Internet, including alsa.sourceforge.net.
I loaded alsamixergui. Opened, it does not show control of the sensitivity of the mic. I opened the window for Volume Control: HDA Intel (Alsa mixer), and moved to maximum the digital recording buttons. The mic still seemed not working, when I tested it with Skype.

Hi,

I have the same notebook under FC9. Have you found a solution?

With Skype I have problems as well - the microphone is not workin and the sound works only when I open options and choose sound devices - there I set for Sound In HDA Intel (hw:intel,0), and for the other two HDA Intel (plughw:intel,0) like this I can hear the test call but when I have to record a msg, it doesn't record anything.

The gnome--sound-recorder doesn't reproduce the record. I have to save it and then use aplay record.mp3 . It playes but even if there is a record, it is below the noise level.

Wonder how can we fix it..seems we got to wait for the next release?

Solved and forgotten

A few days after I posted the problem, I resolved the problem, but, sorry to say, I have forgotten how I did it. I vaguely recall that it had to do with settings in Skype.

Yeah I know how is it, before I didn't do much to note how I solve a particular issue. Now I jot down what I do in case someone comes up with similar problem.

Well I am close to solve it. Its not wiht skype though the settings are important.

Thanks.

First check if you are able to record sound with arecord and play it with aplay.

arecord abc.wav
aplay abc.wav

I am guessing you have checked up everything with alsamixer. If you can paste this file...it would be helpful. Or you can yourself check whether it has Mic settings or not. If not no capture device has been installed. Which sound card are you using?

/etc/alsa/asound.state
