Hi

Although I am newbie to Linux, I am not a newbie to computers. I started in 1959 those were the computers that took a whole room and just prayed that it would run. I installed a number of packages including Apache, McIDAS-V and listen and my mic on the phone set doesn't work any more for Skype but the sound works find. It worked find before the installations. I tested the headphones on another laptop and they work. (I was concern---that one of my 35 grand kids or great grand kids) might adjust the headphones. Should I run alasmixer?
Yesterday --I will answer this question myself. Yep I installed ALASMixter from the packages and I can get it running with the headset=mic plug into the back of the computer but have been unable to get it to run on plug the headset-mic in the front of the computer? The Mic doesn't work on the front.

Definitely double check that and make sure it is not disabled and/or turned all the way down. Also, what all packages did you install?

Well the question by the way is; alsamixer and gnome alsamixer are both installed. I am still unable to get the speaker working on the using the input slots on the front of the computer to work with the mic for Skype. I am completely puzzled!
