Messing around with Mail Notification, I messed up my updates <g>!

Hi, everyone! Though I trod carefully, I messed up the shield in my systray (LinuxMint 17.2 Rafaela [KDE, I think??]).

Mail Notification (MN) from repos doesn't work out-of-the box and the one in the repos appears to be outdated, apparently. I did a lot of googling yesterday trying to get it to work and that seems to be the conclusion. It's not a question of 'fools go where others fear to go' (or however that saying goes), I had to take the plunge sometime though I'm fairly new to Linux so I gave the 'fix' a try.

So yesterday I had 64 updates in there that I would eventually have gotten around to trying to figure out what to do with. But after following the steps to supposedly get MN to work, I now have a red X in there <sigh>. I don't think I've broken anything major, it's just to fix it but I've not gotten anywhere googling (must be my newbness and not knowing the right thing to search for, maybe). I suspect it's just a broken link, an outdated address, maybe?

The instructions I found to get MN to work after being directed to a few different pages is this:
https://launchpad.net/~mail-notifica...ive/ubuntu/ppa
and, yes, it probably is old information but I won't know what to avoid if I don't try _some_ things and I'm definitely missing my email monitoring program that monitored all my yahoo, hotmail and ISP email addresses (all 10 of them!) in the systray <g>.

This the information from the log-type thing in the updates shield:
Quote:
++ Launching mintUpdate
++ Starting refresh
++ Auto-refresh timer is going to sleep for 30 minutes, 0 hours and 0 days
++ Found 64 recommended software updates
++ Refresh finished
++ MintUpdate is in tray mode, performing auto-refresh
++ Starting refresh
++ Auto-refresh timer is going to sleep for 30 minutes, 0 hours and 0 days
-- Error in checkAPT.py, could not refresh the list of updates
++ MintUpdate is in tray mode, performing auto-refresh
++ Starting refresh

(... many repeats of the checkAPT.py line till end)

-- Error in checkAPT.py, could not refresh the list of updates
++ MintUpdate is in tray mode, performing auto-refresh
++ Starting refresh
++ Auto-refresh timer is going to sleep for 30 minutes, 0 hours and 0 days
-- Error in checkAPT.py, could not refresh the list of updates
If there is a kind soul souls who can direct me on how to fix this, that would be super grand!

As always, if there is a better forum to put this in, please let me know.

Thank you!

Hi!

Sorry for the delay! Not having MN working means I have to keep up with my mail manually! Makes life interesting as I haven't had to do that since about 2004 or so!! <lol> This is _exactly_ why I need to get MN working but without it messing up my updates!! <g>.

Also, finally took a moment to figure out how to pipe terminal output to a file. So here is what I get:

Quote:

The red X is on the shield now but when I first start the PC, the shield is accessible and in two different sessions since posting this question, I've dl most of the updates (and set a small handful to ignore, as I couldn't see their value).

But PC has been on for a couple of hours and the red X is back, like it eventually does until a reboot, it seems.

So hoping to figure out how to undo what I added re the update of the Mail Notification app.

Thanks so much for any help!
