Messed up mbr what do I do? I need data in my home dir...
I need to fix my netbook. I had trouble booting into windows on a dual boot eee pc with ubuntu10 and win7. as such i couldn't get into win 7 and decided to run a boot cmd and it jacked my mbr.
now it won't start and as i type this won't turn on. this is one bad day. |
Don't panic.
Just get a boot CD and fix your MBR :) Here's one guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...tallingWindows And another: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2 Alternatively, "SuperGrub2Disk" might be just what the Dr. ordered: http://www.supergrubdisk.org/super-grub2-disk/ Worst case, you could always mount your Windows install CD, go into rescue mode, and run "fixmbr": http://www.ehow.com/how_4836283_repair-mbr-windows.html It all depends on: a) what resources you have available (although I *hope* you have at least *one* install CD, and a working CD/DVD reader) b) what you feel most comfortable trying |
try to fdisk /mbr,then reboot if you can reboot into win7, download a grub4dos,it can be used in windows

thanks peeps
