Are you getting some kind of error when attempting to merge them, or are you asking us to tell you how to combine the two files into a finished video?

which tool are you trying to use to merge your files?
you could try using ffmpeg to merge the 2 files into one that has both visual and audio content
your solution could be in here: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/2...eg-or-mencoder

Did I miss something? You have gone to the trouble of extracting the 2 items that make a movie from a playable file and now you wish to put them
back together again?? Is there a reason you don't just play the mkv file?

@ MS3FGX I am asking for help on getting a final .avi video with audio :S i keep getting a file that is like a large amount of still images. It just does not play. I think my video file is corrupted and I cannot find a way to fix it either. I am new to terminal like I said. TOTALLY NEW ACTUALLY... I just migrated to ubuntu about 2 months ago and I am trying hard to learn my way around terminal! I appreciate ANY feedback I get. Thanks!!

@ 16pide I've tried ffmpeg and mencoder... keep getting a very strange file... the best I've been able to achieve is a 4 sec video that plays at triple the speed :S thanks

@ Grail I had an .mkv file i wanted to put this movie on a DVD that plays on any DVD and the only way I have figured out this can be done is by turning the file into a .avi That is the reason why y extracted the audio and video files and now I am trying to merge them into one single workable file again. Thanks!

You didn't have to do this in hard way. You just need some converter application. I can't suggest any atm since for my needs i tend use online convert websites like zamzar.

Not every DVD player will play .avi files. To be 100% sure that the DVD will work on any DVD player, it needs to be in DVD-video format. Yo do that, you can get tovid and tovidgui (not that is your only choice)

http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/tovid
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/tovidgui

Converting .mkv to .avi from comamnd line is the hard way. MKVToolnix will do it easily from a GUI-

http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/mkvtoolnix
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/mkvtoolnix-gui

Again, that is not your only choice.

@ cascade9 THANKS!!!! I will try these options and see if I can get my .mkv file to work...
I am a total newbie to terminal and linux and I sooo appreciate your help!!! One thing I can say is that I have learned a lot from all of you at the forum and a lot indeed by doing things the hard way :S
I did not mean the way I did my converting of files was the only way, I meant it was the only way I could figure out it could be done... I was doing it on my own instead of looking for help at forums like this one
Will try the options you mentioned and will let you know how it went.
Thanks

Use DeVeDe, it should create a dvd from your file.
