Menu Items disappear and not available for use

Im running fedora core 6.

Sometimes when I log on to my workstation, the menus will have disappeared off the border.

ie. Applications, Places, System will be gone along with any shortcut icons to launch email, firefox, open office etc etc....

I'm guessing some program or some panel manager process has crashed.

Anyone know of this issue or what program may be at fault?

A change is screen resolution can also account for things moving out of view. Does anyone else use that workstation who might have changed resolution?

no, no one else uses the machine.
and there was definitely no change in resolution (intended or accidental).

The shaded bar/border will still be there.
But all Menu heading options and icons would be gone.

I have to presss ctl-alt-f6 to get console to restart.

Once even all the files and links on my Desktop also disappeared.
That has only happened once though while the menus can disappear once every 2/3 weeks maybe.

Usually I have a few workspaces enabled and the workspace switcher will have disappeared also.

Any ideas appreciated.
