memory stick returns error no medium found

I have search this site and several others but can't seem to find a proper answer.
using fc4 when first installed I plugged in my memory stick it would show on the desktop automatically. that no longer works so I decided to create a mount for the drive.
first received error that sda1 did not exist. Took care of that by creating the device in mknod
created my dir in mnt called flash
created mount - t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/flash Now getting error that no medium is found.

I also tried to change the mount from sda1 to sda, sdb sdb1none work.

can someone tell me what the problem is.
here is my dmesg.

Try:

mount -t msdos /dev/sdb1 /mnt/flash

Worked for my Lexar Jumpdrive Secure!
