Cool memory query

This mungrel machine of mine (microstar badge on front/built by medion - german company/MSI 6507 mainboard) is proving a bit mysterious.

I am looking into memory upgrade. Its got 256 meg att, I would like to up that to 512 meg - sussing out the memory is a little confusing, I have had to d/l the sisoft sandra utility (I appreciate that linux will probably have an app for system analysis but as most of my questions are of the "how do I play Tron level" I have to try window$ app's) and I can work out that I have a 256 meg dimm but for some reason it is refering to it as "DDR SDRAM" 266 PC2100.

Is that the same as what seems to be refered to as DDR ram and if I get the extra DIMM for it, does linux "auto detect" the extra ram or do I have to start trying to find out how to change some system settings etc

p.s. the sisoft app even gives me a siemens part number - should I need that to get a DIMM to be an exact match ?

linux should handle the auto-detecting thing fine - i think it's actually a bios issue. the o/s is pretty much irrelevant once you've got the right ddr/sdram thing figured out.
