MDK 10 and XP

Hi people

Heres my question...

I've been flirting with linux (mostly mandrake) for a few months now and had no problem in installing mandrake 9 on my spare second ide hard drive. I was able to select either xp or mandrake without a problem.

i recently purchased a new sata 120 gig HDD and installed xp on that and installed my older ide 80 gig as a secind drive. i wanted to install mandrake 10 on the older secind drive,

Unfortunately everytime i try and install linux on the second drive and select xp from the bootloader, XP will not load up saying that NT bootloader is missing!!!! i n ever had this problem.

i know that when i formatted my new sata on win xp pro installer it said it needed to copy a few files to the older ide. but i dont know why thisis happening.

mandrake detects both drives!! is there known issue with mandrake being installed on a 2 hdd system when xp is on sata and the mandrake distro is installed on the second ide hdd??

help as i really wanna get to use and know linux

Welcome to LQ.

Can you post a copy of your bootloader configuration file?

Depending on what bootloader you are using it will be called lilo.conf or grub.conf (or /boot/groub/menu.lst)

Well you will need to install the other operating system before you can even start to dual boot.

There's a good tutorial on dual booting Mandy & XP on mandrakeusers.org.
Here's a link: mandy & XP
