MDk 10.1 installation failure
Hi guys,
I am a newbie who just tried to install MDK 10.1 Discovery onto my winXP. 1 - During the install I get to the summary page and am presented with nothing. The only way to progress is to powerdown and reboot the machine - resulting in an unfinished install. I did discover that if I turn off the usb controller in my bios I get presented with the summary options. However continuing with the install resulted in my winXP failing to boot so I had to do a complete reinstall :-) Having the USB controller turned off means I have to navigate via the keyboard as my mouse wont work!! 2 - I also believe my graphics card (ati radeon 300) isnt supported by mandrake. A real pain as I only found this out after I paid for the distro... So can anybody help with a) getting my linux to install, b) giving any recommendations as to how I can get my graphics installed (is there any linux os that support this) and c) in such a way that my winXP doesnt bugger up again. :-) BTW - I've got a dell dimension 4700.. Thanks |
Is discovery a live distro (that is run only from the cd, no install?)?
Anyway, when you start use the advanced option in the boot (press F1?) vesa mode for the graphics card (bound to be recognised) otherwise maybe use frambuffers You can also disable some hardware detection (during the boot) More generally look into bootprompt parameters Here is one ref http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/BootPrompt-HOWTO.html Do not install grub or lilo on the MBR Find some info for dual booting whereby you edit bootnfs (or whatever the zindoze boot is called) so the zindoze boot has a new menu to boot linux |
