mbr reinstall, boot command

I have to reinstall windows xp and it overwrite the mbr and now i cant boot in to linux. I have been Reading some documents on how to reinstall grub but i get stuck in the first step. I but from the fedora core Cd boot in to the rescue mode but when it prompt boot: i don't know what command to use and i try /Dev/hda3 and other combinations but it just give me some error message.

try 'root=/dev/hda3' (where /dev/hda3 is your root partition device), and it should boot.
You might need to put the name of the kernel before it but I'm not sure (if it's given, try it. If it doesn't work and the name of the kernel isn't given, try 'vmlinuz root=/dev/hda3').
