SuSE 9.1 Install tells me:

Error occurred while installing GRUB
GNU Version 0.94(640k lower/3072 upper memory)

One choice is to abort installation, and the other is to just say OK.

What does this mean & what do I do now?

Linux & I aren't starting off as very good friends.

OH BOY!!! That's the Multiboot Bootloader. I think I'm in big time trouble(again).

Help someone please! That thing spent over an hour getting to this point, and I hate to lose all of that.

Without knowing the whole error or why it's thrown that error, there's not a lot we can do. It's not the end of the world, there are ways to get into the OS without the bootloader (you did create that bootdisk, right?) or failing that you can use knoppix or something (SuSE must have a rescue function?)

And shouldn't that be "m'aidez! M'aidez!"? It's French for "Help me!"

Thanks Komakino for the response. I didn't make a rescue disk. Not sure I remember it asking me to do so, but that doesn't mean I didn't blow right by it during the install. I guess the questions are now:

Has the HDD already been repartitioned?
If I say abort will the system just go back to where it was
before I started this mess.

Please pardon me for being irreverent, but I believe the name of this software might need to be changed to Linsux.

Comments like that last aren't likely to get you much help.

I understand masonm, and I begged forgiveness before I made the comment. I have been working diligently for over a week now trying to get some version of Linux running so I can use a particular application.

My frustration level is around 40 feet high right now, and things aren't getting any better, so PLEASE, just humor me and I will try to work through this.

i've never used suse or grub, but i threw that error at www.google.com/linux and found this:

mcd, I greatly appreciate your efforts. I decided that I was too far into the install to abandon it and told the system to just go forward. It finished the install and rebooted into Windows, showing a full HDD. I suppose that Linux is on the machine, but Windows can't see it. I have a disk overlay on that machine to fool the BIOS, maybe that is the problem.

I am tired and frustrated with this effort. Perhaps I will just have to wait until I can build a dedicated machine. my sincere appreciation to all who responded.
