matter of completeness..

I recently went to install the NVidia drivers. Now in there it tells you to not do this while in X but to drop to a console. I finally managed it from within X (Although I did have several problems, and found that copying the XF86Config file from the NVidia docs over my current one then copying my details from my backed up XF86Config eventually worked[much messing around]) So, now I have moved onto getting DVD playback to work properly etc.. I would just like to know for future reference how exactly I drop out of X? there doesn't seem to be any option like exit to command prompt ie. Win95/98 so how do I acheive this?

Redhat 8 if it makes any difference. :Pengy:

that's a VERY bizarre way of installing it, you only needed to edit one line... anyway. open a terminal and as root type "init 3" then exit X normally or press ctrlaltbackspace

for next time: the nvidia site hosts a great discussion forum where several people posted in detail how to install those drivers.
