Mandrkae cannot start cablemodem.

I have a USB cablemodem, a Webstar 2100 series. I manually configurated it (with help of the Mandrake Wizard, of course). I click 'iniciate on startup' and 'hot plugin' (im not at home, dont rememer exactly, besides, im translating from spanish).

The thing is, every time i restart, i have to manually setup again the modem coz in the extended startup, says that cannot initialize 'eth2' (the port where the cablemodem is installed). I dont really know what can this be, but is annoying, because the LAN and the wireless LAN are detected fine (those are in the motherboard, a Asus A8V), but the modem doesnt.

How are you manually setting up the modem?

what happens if you run the script ifup as root?

what happens if you run /etc/rc.d/init.d/network --restart?

After you manually set up the modem, how/where are you saving the config file?
