Mandriva internet use.

I recently took the plunge and freed myself of the shackles of the Mircosoft corporation and went Linux only! Unfortunately, I used my Windows drive primarily for gaming...so the transition has been a rough one. I have recently been exploring the world of Linux-based games and would like to download such games as Cube and others. Unfortunately, in order to play them I need to download them, which means I need internet. So on to my question:

How do I configure Mandriva Free 2007 to sign into my MSN 56K account, if it is possible at all?

I think both of my modems (what? they're cheap) will work with the more recent versions of Linux, so now I just need to get them to sign on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ive never used mandriva so i dont know exactly. i assume there is a 'ppp' tool somewhere, search around the control panel in the networking-related section.

What kind of modems, (make & model), (pci modem, serial or USB)?

Are you running 64bit Mandriva? (type "uname -ra" in a terminal), if you see "x86_64" you are running 64bit. Only Lucent Win Modem with mars chip set can be installed on Linux 64bit for a pci modem.

If you have a LT modem (Lucent Tech.), you have to install kernel source matching current running kernel and compile drivers. If you are running 32/64bit, visit http://linmodems.org/ and download & use scanModem tool to get all required info to get one of those modems working. If they are serial modems, go through MCC "configure my computer/network" to set it up.

EDIT: After seeing prior post, ppp may not be installed from fresh installation on Mandriva, installing kppp or wvdial (dialers) through "install software, 'urpm'" will install ppp.
