mandriva doesn't boot straigth to kde

Hello,
I am an absolute newbie to Linux. Nevertheless I was somehow successful installing mandriva-linux-2005 on my Dell Inspiron 8100. Yesterday, I de-installed the instant messenger, and installed skype. When I tried to switch on the computer it won't go straight to kde (as it did before, before I un/installed things); it asks me for my local host login and my password. After that this message is being displayed after I typed in startkde:

xsetroot: unable to open display''
/home/anhie/ .kde/env/start-gpg-agent.sh: line 5: /home/anhie/ .gnupg/gpg-agent.conf: No such file or directory
xset: unable to open display
xsetroot: unable to open display
smodmap: unable to open display
startkde: Starting up...
ksplash: cannot connect to x server
kdeinit: Aborting. $DISPLAY is not set.
Warning: connect () failed: : No such file or directory

(gnome-volume-manager:6559): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display
ksmserver: cannot connect to x server
startkde: shutting down...
warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
Error: Can't contact kdeinit!
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
Stop ssh-agent
SSH_AGENT_PID not set, cannot kill agent
Finish stop ssh-agent
startkde: Done.

Can someone please help me to sort this out?

Thank you very much in advance

Anhie a.k.a. Leela77

Try "startx" instead of startkde. The error you are getting is because you are trying to startkde without the Xserver being initialized

Good luck!

You've posted this in the Mandriva forum too. Try my answer there and see if that works: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=368955

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
