Mandrake9-How to access desktop
I am a complete newbie - so, please, no sarcastic answers. I have installed Mandrake9 and, when I boot up, the screen asks for Login and then Password. I type in my login name, which is eddie and type in my password when it is asked for. The screen comes up with:
[eddie@localhost eddie] $ It is obviously looking for a command line. I have looked through the Documentation CD but could not find anything. I am not completely ignorant of command lines as I did a few lines of programming in BASIC many, many moons ago. Any help and/or advice would be very much appreciated. Eddie |
If what you want is getting into kde or gnome or whatever, just type
Code:
startx |
Many thanks. There are problems with the screen configuration but, at least, I know how to get started.

You can enable a graphical login screen by: Going to Mandrake control centrre->Hardware->Graphical server->Options. Say yes.

Hello beejayzed and jib2
Again many thanks for your advice. I do not know how many people would manage without the advice and help from forums. |
