I am a total Linux newbie. I just installed Mandrake 9.1 (in a dual boot with Win2K). When I load Linux and log into KDE, it just hangs. The hard drive light stays on and I get the watch icon, but that's it. Any help would be appreciated!
Sounds to me like you have the video drivers setup wrong. If it's booting in runlevel 3 then try to reconfigre with xf86config. Make sure you also get the monitor setup right to.
