Mandrake MIDI
I'm running Mandrake 10.1.
Sound works well. I've checked and I have the ALSA driver for my soundcard (integrated on the motherboard, it's a "SiS Real" something or other.) I can play mp3's but I want to play MIDI files through my soundcard. I don't want to use a piece of hardware since I'm poor. Like when you play a .mid file in Windows Media or use QuickTime Player on a Mac. That's what I want. Here's what I've done so far: I've downloaded a soundfont (Unison) and installed KMid. I've pointed Rosegarden to the soundfont. I've hunted around on the web and found a few instructions and nothing has really worked. I ran some arcane config program and it told me there's no /dev/sequencer. Isn't that what rosegarden is? When I go to configure MIDI in KMid, it can't find a MIDI device. What do I need to do? Please tell me I don't have to recompile my kernel, because I'm scared of that! Thanks! |
