Mandrake KDE desktop icons non-functional
I just installed Mandrake 9.2. The "Home" "Floppy" and "CD-Rom" and "Trash" desktop icons are all non-functional.

"Home" does nothing at all. Double-clicking "Floppy," "CD-Rom," or "Trash" presents the "Open with..." dialog box. I selected Nautilus from the open-with list, which is the only file utility listed. Didn't work. Not sure what to do now.

I also see a bunch of warnings when I log out, like this one:

"Warning: Symbol map for <lCTL> redefined. Using last definition for conflicting fields. Errors from xkbcompu are not fatal to the X server."

<edit> I also installed all the security and bug fix updates. I see another user had a similar problem. What's the best way to recover from this?</edit>

"update-menus -v" seemed to help fix this problem. Anyone else?

Yes, I had that exact problem when I used Mandrake, along with many other annoyances. It seemed to work fine after I chose "update menu" or something like that from Mandrake's menu editor...
