Mandrake Internet
 

Just got the new version of Mandrake and am trying to connect to the internet

I got it all working properly I believe and I click on the Desktop Icon "connect to the internet"

It dials and it works but the net monitor program times out too quickly (half way through dialing it says "Connect Failed")

How can I slow down it's timeout time?


I am also trying to find KPPP to dialout with (seems a bit stupid dialing out by typing in root's password, going into the control centre and clicking connect. Know where to get it and how to install it? I thought it came inside KDE as standard

Hey buddy, open an xterm in KDE and type kppp

There ya go, if you have it, it should be there.

I don't have it then by the looks of things :)

I typed kppp and it said it didn't exist

I downloaded it recently but it wouldn't install (I'll get you the error ASAP)

The install instructions say run something called ./configure first to check it's compatible with my system

I did it and at the end I got this error:

Checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt >=1.42 (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation!


Any ideas what is wrong and how I can fix it?

Kppp should be on your distro CDs - I think it'll be under an rpm similar to 'kdenetwork'.....if it's there it should also be under the start menu > networking > remote access submenu.

As you've got Mdk, open Software Manager and type kde in the installable field - it should show the relevant packages, including the 'devel' rpms that contain the headers you need.

BTW, unless the package you downloaded is a Mandrake one, I'd use the package that came with the distro, otherwise you may find other dependency problems ;)
