Mandrake installed but not in boot choice

I had Mandrake and Windows 98 dual booting. I had to blow out W 98 but Mandrake is on another drive. How can I get I think it is LILO back? When I boot now, I just have W 2000 on there. I used to get a choice of linux and W 98.

(Keep'er it simple please)

Thanks.

Two possible ways:

One, boot from your Mandrake install disk and use it as a rescue dist. Once into Linux, you can reactivate LILO

Two, get a (free) program from WinImage.com called BootPart. There are instructions with it, but basically you run he program from the windows from the winsows dos command prompt with no arguments and it will give a list of bootable partitions with details.

You then run the program again using the number of the partition you want to boot as a command line argument, and a file name in which BootPart will create a binary boot image.

After this check windows boot.ini and make sure that BootPart has added a pointer to the new binary file. If not, add it yourself.

The choice of Linux or windows will now appear in your windows boot loader.

How would I do this?

Thanks for the reply.

Hi

Does your computer boot from the cd rom or floppy. I the floppy you will need to change it to the cd rom. To do this, press delete while the bios is booting the computer after a reboot. This will take you into the bios set-up. Set the cd rom as the first boot priority and the floppy as the third. If the computer does not have this option, you will need to try BootPart.

I use linux 8.1 pro, but the following should be similar on other versions.

1. Reboot the computer with the linux installation disk 1 in the cd rom.

2. When the first screen displays select "other Options" ( I think it is F1)

3. The next screen will have some options and information.

4. Type "rescue" at the command prompt then <ret>

5. The next screen will give you the option to reinstall LILO or install the windows boot loader. I think that if you reinstall LILO it will also pick up the windows partion and give you both options when you boot.

Hope this helps
