Did you verify your ISO images before you burned them to CD? It is possible that your error is caused by:
a) a faulty ISO image which contains a corrupt 'ram drive' image
b) a faulty CD drive which is not reading the disc properly

If you are certain that your ISO images are fine, you can install Mandrake from the harddrive! You should keep your ISO files in a directory off the root (something like C:\Mandrake). Since you have already burned install disc 1 to a CD (I presume), then you can access it and make a bootfloppy... check under the images subdirectory on the CD - it should contain all the programs needed to make the bootfloppy as well as the floppy image.

Hope this helps.

thanks for your response.. my problem appears to have been caused by something that has bitten me in my linux-installing as* before.. if i dont burn linux install discs at near the lowest speed my burner will do (8-10x) I tend to get strange, fatal, install destroying errors... as was the case with this .. i re-burned all 3 discs at 8x and it worked great.

well..until my other problems occured..but at least I got it installed

cheers,

cakes..
