mandrake/fedora/xp I messed up help!
Hi everyone
first I'd like to point out that i'm a total newbie to linux. I have a laptop running windows xp home edition so I installed Mandrake 9.2 and made all the partitioning mess using partition magic ,everything went fine then I thought I could install redhat fedora core with these operating systems *sigh* it got tough at this stage , the installation of fedora was successful but mandrake stopped working and gave me these error messeges then I formated the mandrake partition so I could reinstall it and I did, but redhat diappeared from the mandrake boot load menu, I logged into xp to fix this with boot magic and check if fedora is still there , I found it and chose booting in fedora but the unexpected happend Mandrake boot load menu appeared and windows crashed :( it gives me this "system fatal error"messege whenever I choose it from the load boot menu though mandrake is still functioning fine ...Does anyone have any idea how this can be fixed and how I can run mandrake/fedora/xp at the same time? I really don't feel like formatting and starting all over again plz I need help *plz excuse my crappy English its my second language* |
might be difficult
Since XP is your primary OS, fix that first.
Boot from the XP cd and choose "Recovery Console" login with the RC and then run "fixmbr" WARNING: that will delete the other bootloader, but most likely will restore XP You can only have a max of 7 partitions. Windows needs 1 Linux generally likes 1 for "/" (root), 1 for "swap", and sometimes a few others depending on the distro. Make sure that you don't excede 7 partitions. Also: have you considered using boot disks instead of putting all of those loaders on there? I'm a n00b too, so don't count what I say as being a definitive answer, but it might help. P.S. You're english is a lot better than my spanish... and maybe even my english for that matter! |
