Mandrake editions

Is there really that big of a difference between all the editions of mandrake? (Download edition, discovery, powerpack, etc.) Which one is the best if i wanted to try Mandrake out? Thanks.

Each version has more software included, download has the least, then discovery, then power-pack.

If you just want to try it out, I would definitely go for the download version. No need to pay for it if you don't know if you like it yet, then if you did like it you could go ahead and buy a power pack or discovery set. If not, you didn't waste any money.

Also, i think most of the non-commercial software that comes with the purchase packages are available from urpmi if you set up your sources correctly.

The first one that I tried was a paid for version of standard.

It worked well.

I then tried the powepack version and that was better. I did that twice.

The main reasons that I now use gentoo are to get away from the 6 monthly upgrading, and gentoo's excellent portage system.

Given the reasonable cost of a powerpack (the powerpack + version is what they now call the Pro version and I didn't need that), it's worth the money.
