Mandrake download question...

My patience with WinXP is gone after too many issues and blah.

I've had my eye on all this linux hype, mainly because it's completely stable and free and now it's at a point where it supposedly user-friendly.

I'm thinking of getting Mandrake 9.2, but the download page there's I think only one version, but on their product page there's the Personal version which I want. Is it possible to find a download for that? What's the difference between the download version with the Personal or other versions?

Are there any other Linux versions that are completely user/newb friendly? Or is mandrake the one?

I have an 8gig partition which i think/hope is enough....and the rest of my system is:
AMD 2400+
768mb ram
ECS motherboard with the SiS735 chip
ATi radeon 7500 (i use dual monitors)
1 cdrom
1 cd-rw
SB audigy 1

And I'm planning to dual boot with XP and use Mandrake for basic homework typing/spreadsheets/presentations, internet, e-mail, mp3s, instant messaging. Gaming if it's not too much of a hassle.

I do have "okay" knowledge of computers, but my patience is extremely thin and my tech support is a baseball bat in my right hand.

I've been told that this place is extremely helpful, so I ask of you all to guide me through this! This open source thing is huge and its just so easy for me to get lost in all of this.

Thanks in Advanced!

I will be forever in your debt if someone can help me install the right Mandrake version and get me all set up and ready and stable.

AFAIK the download version means you have to get the grfx drivers yourself
and unless it's been changed, it also means no kernel source code (another 17MB download)
but mostly it means no support from mandrake

if your patience is extremely thin you're going to have a rough ride
llinux is everything you've heard and it's a STEEP learning curve
