Mandrake Bootloader problem

When i am installing Mandrake, it automatically replaces my windows boot sector with a grub/LILO boot sector.

is there a way that i can tell mandrake to install the bootloader on a floppy... It does not give me an option of where to install it..

there is definataly a way to do it. You may have to look at the advanced options when you come to installing a bootloader. It is not hard to install lilo to a disk after the install anyway. If you need to get your old mbr back you should be able to boot into dos and run
fdisk /mbr

it asks me no questions whatsoever before installing the bootloader. right after i add users, it jumps into installing the bootloader with no configuration available.

Which version of Mandrake are you trying to install? - there should be a check box you can tick on a previous page such that if its ticked then you get an advanced options section near the top of the next page - in that advanced options section you should have options to install LILO GRUB SKIP etc etc.

im installing 9.1 and i want to be able to have it install the bootloader onto a floppy and not overwrite my current one. i don't recall seeing a check box like the one you described anywhere.

run the setup in expert mode, I pressed F1 then typed 'text expert'. When it comes to installing the bootloader it brings up a list of where you can install it MBR, hda ..etc.

If floppy isnt on that list, then put it anywhere except the MBR (this is where your windows bootloader is). You must create a boot floppy though, otherwise ...well you know... The option for it is there somewhere, the last thing if I remember

Good luck

Via expert mode is how I was able to do this as well.
The other thing you can do is simply modify the linux bootloader after the install to dual boot your windows system. If you have a legitimate reason to want to floppy boot though, more power to you.
