You know who you are hehehhhe, WEll if you have read my previous posts and woes about Red Hat I no longer grieve i thank those who have given me advice on my problem, it gave me great inisght into how much of a sh*t compaqs really are ... I am now running Mandrake and now i have modem probs here's what i know... Type III Mini PCI 56K (V.92) Modem
Integrated 10/100 NIC (on board) i'll dig up brand name but if anyone else has a quick solution however when i punch in Moden DEvice it is set to /dev/ttys0.... and it doesn't give any problems but it doesn't seem to be dialing... anyone else has this problem or have any ideas,.. thanks
I don't know much about that particular modem, but I do know that there's a high likely hood that, since it's v.92 and pci, it's probably a winmodem. I don't know this for sure though, but I wouldn't rule it out. cat /proc/pci and see if your kernel can see it and that there isn't a problem. Also, if you find that it is a winmodem, check to see if there's a linmodem driver for it.
Ok...... here's what i dug up using cat /proc/pci ...
Communication controller: Conexant HSF 56k HsGi Modem (rev1).
IRQ5. MAster Capable. Latency=64........ and soo on i think this is what i'm looking for as far as interpreting...that's another story...hahahaha Where to go from here? About the problem with winmodems tho...at that /dev/ttys0 it doesn't give me any error messages...but when it stays at initializing modem and it freezes.....maybe with that irq settings...but if any brainstorms coem to mind just shoot em here thanks.
I didn't get to do much research on whether or not it was a winmodem, but I'm pretty sure it is :'(...oh well...hopefully you can get it to be a lin modem
hahahah well i am posting now on my Linux machie i am sooooo happy.... Well luckily for me Connextant had HSF drivers so i lucked out.. Oh well thank you all and now time for the next step..
I Had the same problem, now cured. Download the driver from Conexant and Marc Bouchet,
hsflinmodem-5.03.03.L2mbsibeta02052600-1_mdk82.i586.rpm.
It worked like magic for me, I'm typing this with Mandrake
hahahah yes I am very Happy , i'm glad connexant had pretty good support... I feel like a new born baby...This new world is fun though.. I hope that i can one day help a lil fo0 in need... Thanks a lot guys..
