Mandrake and GCC

System OS: Mandrake 10.0
hi, i'm trying to install gcc on mandrake but:
it says:
Configuring for a i686-pc-linux-gnu host.
Created "Makefile" in /home/hans/gcc-3.3 using "mt-frag"
./configure: line 8: cc: command not found
*** The command 'cc -o conftest -g conftest.c' failed.
*** You must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler.

Please help me with this critcal thing

"*** The command 'cc -o conftest -g conftest.c' failed."

cc is an alias for gcc. Use the which command to find your gcc:
which gcc
and then crate cc as an alias for gcc. On my machine gcc is in /usr/bin so I would create cc as an alias for gcc with:

ln -s gcc /usr/bin/cc

If you are in the situation that you do not already have gcc installed then you cannot use gcc to compile gcc. In that case you will have to install a binary rpm of gcc.

If you need to install gcc, do it from RPM. You need gcc to compile gcc from source.
