Mandrake 9 to be a server

Hello everyone, you will have to forgive me for my ignorance of linux. I am certified in pretty much all microsoft programs, but when it comes to linux I am lost. The problem I am having is that when I install Mandrake and get to the part of what I want to load ,Example workstation , internet station , server the only boxes I have checked are server. When the computer reboots when it is all finished and I go into mandrake control center there is nothing that says server configuration. I have nothing that says apache, ftp , mail , etc. I know I checked these choices , it basically acts like a workstation, when I want it to be a server. Any help would be great .
Thanks in advance,
Sincerely,
Andrew Burns

If you installed the server option, they should all be there. check if you have "webmin".... it's a nice server configurator. maybe "man webmin" would tell you.... if it's found, you have it... if not, you probably don't.

What do you want the box to do? There is probably documentation on the various server apps that comes with mandrake.... check which one you want to use and see if you can find any info on it through the "man <application>" method, or start another thread (or search) here relating to the specific server you want to use.

good luck

Adam thanks for the info I went into add software to install wizdrake as it was not on my system. It than tells me to insert the first media cd I do that and it just keeps telling me to insert the correct media disk 1. Is mandrake 9 problems , maybe I should just drop the version 9 format the drive and install 8.2 mandrake.

You shouldn't have to re-install, I don't think. Have you heard that Mandrake 9 has those problems? They might want the source cd, not the install cd.

again, what server's do you want to run? I'm kindof skeptical about using mandrake for servers.... but I might be wrong. Do you have webmin on there? I would recommend using that over wizdrake or something else (if that's what wizdrake does). If not, you should install it. I believe you will need to be running a webserver for it to work... but again, I could be wrong. If you search here on webmin you'll find a lot of info on it.

good luck
