mandrake 9 mail server?

hi, i'm trying to setup a mail server on my mandrake 9 box and not sure how to start.

all i know is postfix would be smtp, but what would be the pop to store the mail? qmail?

do i add the users in the linuxconf menu, i remember seeing a pop users thing in there....

i own 3 domains i'd like to use for my emails, how do i start doing this?

my main 1 dns server is a win2k box beside it that is the webserver... i'm also considering to change to apache... not sure how to use it yet...

i have to add MX records to the dns server, i know that, but not sure how to go about it...

any help would be great, thanks :)

by default any existing system users will have their own mail accounts, so you don't need to add any users.

qmail is an smtp server as well. but pop does not store mail anyway, that is used to access existing mail. the smtp will (should) put all mail in /var/spool/mail/<user> or very similar

oh alright cool :) so postfix, what is the best way to administer this? in webmin? or just manually in a config file... for postfix?

i have 3 separate domains, my dns server and iis on my win2k machine do their web server thing to all 3.... do you know anything about adding MX records?

is postfix the best choice to do the 3 domain thing itself? and how then how do i add users to it for say like my clan members? just add regular users? adduser yada yada... in console?

i run sendmail on my gateway server, so don't acutally need any mx records to get it going, and i'm not sure of your topology so wouldn't really know what to suggest.

postfix is meant to be much easier to use than sendmail, but i alawys say just go to the config file, less farting around with, but i dare say there's a webmin module around for it.

if you want to add mail only users I wouldn't really know to be honest. you can just add a user without a home and you'd effectively have the same thing. but i assume there's a better more official way to do it.

that's cool, thanks for the input kewpie ;D

my topology is kinda wierd lol

i have 2 ip addresses

modem -> switch -> router (#1 ip)
............................-> #2 ip

#1
-webserver win2k adv. server domain controller
which is a amd k6-2 550mhz
-3 clients (myself, brother, husband)

#2
-CS server & mail server (hopefully)
which is mandrake 9 on a dual celeron 533mhz

so does anyone else use mandrake 9 as a mail server?

and do i just use postfix? or is there something better for multi-domains?

does it use port 25 and 110? or what other program would use 110? i need a pop server too right because postfix for example is a SMTP server?
