Mandrake 9.2 Installation Problem
Hi there, I've just downloaded the mandrake 9.2 ISO Cd's and burn the images to CD. (checksums matched)
Now, when I boot up to start the installation, it just sort of hangs... so I checked the log and the kernel messages and I get: Log: ----------------- * have to insmod ide-cd * needs CD-ROM * needs ide-cd Kernel Messages --------------------------- <4>hdd irq timeout:status=0x51 {DriveReady Seek Complete Error } <6> hdd irq timeout = 0x60 LastFailedSense0x60 well just a whole list of irq timeouts..... I'm guessing someones wrong with my cd drives? I tested both my DVD-RW and my CD-RW drives and both act the same. (LiteOn DVD-RW 4x, Acer 16x10x40) I have those two CD drives on the same ide cable, and two hard drives on another cable, could this be it? Any help is appreciated, thanks. |
Chiko,
something very similar to that happened to me when I was trying to install drake. I tried it with several different downloads and even more discs. Still no good. I would recomend trying another cdrom drive that you may have lying around, or just trying another distro, from what I hear Mandrake is just Red Hat Junior. I would recomend Fedora Core or Libranet if you are a newbie, or Gentoo if you feel confident to try some tougher stuff..... gentoo has excellent online documentation |
ah ok, thanks for the tip, will do :D

Ah fixed the problem, Can't have two CD-ROM's on the same IDE channel.. heh
This also what stopped Lycoris from installing too. |
