Mandrake 9.2 don't understand why..

I have bought a brand new P.C to use Mandrake 9.2. The install was magic,so simple even I did it myself, but It did'nt find my printer HP 3650.or my bt voyager usb modem, sow I put a 56k modem in,It found that but what port is it on? IT saw my CPU as 2000 (its 2500).
In the Mandrake linux powerpack you get lots of programs to install, how do you do that?? how do you now what they are ie details of what the program is? not just 4-5 letters which mean nothing to me?The worst thing is when it starts up, slow you can have a fag before its ready to go!! when it is going thats so slow too. I have Lots of questions to ask but it will bore you as it is me at the moment.....not happy with madrake ...

HP 3650

Your printer doesn't seem to be listed in mdk 9.2's printer database.
However you may get it to work with the info provided on

I don't understand your question 'what port is it on'?

It's normal that the harddrake program reports a different (lower) CPU speed than you think you have. This is the difference between ratings that vendors give and true MHz.

You can install additional programs from with the Software Install option (look in menu Packaging). This launches rpmdrake, you can also type that in yourself on the terminal.

When Mandrake is slow at booting, you may have too many services activated. E.g. if you're not running a server system you won't need an ftpd or sshd service. When you're not on a local network you may turn off netfs, etc. Use drakxservices (or the control center) to control services. But be careful, don't just turn off services that you don't know what they are.

Thank you for your reply......
As for the ports it shows me 8 ports it could be on (tt..something) I have tryed all of these and no luck in getting to work (works on this pc com 1).
The printer driver etc do'st work my 3650!!
my broadband connection (voyager) unheard of on my pc??
I also spent some time on the services, turned off those not needed..
did a restart, still takes over a minute to load and when the desktop has loaded, starting a program takes about 30 seconds to load,
Its two and a half weeks I have been trying to get this to work, not long perhaps, but I have Nothing to show for my efforts At All....

What sort of modem is it? To find out, open a console, type in su and then enter. It will ask for the root password - put it in and hit enter then type in lspci That will give an output. Copy the text and post it here. You modem may well be a WinModem. It might work even so.
