Mandrake 9.2 - boots and asks for login

Hi,

I installed Mandrake 9.2 and had it running fine, it used to boot up and load kde fine. I may have changed something when trying to install a program and now when i boot up it prompts me to log in, in a console type screen. How do I switch it back so it loads to the GUI screen again.

Also on my laptop it tends to freeze every now and then, I thought this was when the cooling kicked in but having a browse on here it looks liek it could be switching from battery to mains.

Thanks in advance

By the way, when I try to log in it accepts my username but the cursor does not allow me to type my password.

The cursor does not allow you to type your password?

In normal operation, the cursor does not move or anything to show what you're typing for your password. Someone looking over your shoulder could see how many letters were in your password if they did.

You wont want to change back to a graphical default startup if x has got buggered up and isnt working properly
The usual default is not to echo your password as you type it in. It should be working even though you dont see it.

Hopefully you will only need to change your inittab to go back to graphical startup, but have you tried using the <startx> command to see if x is still working ok?
