Mandrake 9.2
I have just installed Mandrake 9.2 on a Sony Vaio PCG-FX501... it is absolutely SPLENDID!!
Here i am connected to the internet, downloading my mail and checking out news, using my docs on a Windows 2000 server, listening to my favourite internet radio, and using my new "el-cheapo" logitech USB mouse, looking forward to a DVD... Hannibal! Just a big thank you for all the people in this forum, I have learned a lot from you on how to do make those things which did not work out of the box well work :) My next tasks? Use a wireless intel card, test the firewire connection using my videocamera, and set up my webcam to use gnomemeeting and make the function keys work (sonyxi [sic]??) A few tips for those with the same type of laptop, they worked for me, but I cannot say if it might work for you: If u choose Alsa driver when installing (and in my case they were chosen by default), the machine just hangs, I used the kernel drivers instead and the sound is crystal clear, better than the Windows counterpart. My USB mouse did not work, all I had to do was put quotation marks in etc/X11/XF86Config, where it says: Section "Pointer" Protocol "IMPS/2" Device "/dev/usbmouse" ZAxisMapping "4 5" <<< ----here<<----- EndSection and reboot. |
Cool - congratulations on getting it all up and running. Good luck for the next projects. :)
