Mandrake 9.1 woes
Hello all. Default installation of Mandrake 9.1.
On boot pops this error message:
ldm_validate_partition_table(): Disk read failed
It's was also logged in my syslog. I am unfamilar with e2fsk especially when I have ext3 partitions. So can anyone help me with this? Cheers guys
PS: Yes the paritions were ok before install cause I had red hat 9 running super smooth!

I seem to recall reading somewhere else that with errors like this, the easiest option is to re-install.
I think that you should be able to try F1, when offered in the early part of install to get the "expert" option of install and tell it to use ext3 to format the partition for the installation.
regards
John

Cool, think I might try that. I noticed that there weren't many options in the installer so I will give it a go. But for future reference - how do I check a ext3 partition for errors?
Thanks BigJohn

Pass. Never had to, or bothered to find out. Just lucky I suppose.
www.google.com/linux then search for ext3+partition+errors+check I would have thought.

A puzzlement; pattern? (ldm_validate_partition_table)
I get ldm_validate... too--on startup & shutdown of Mandrake 9.1. Nine tenths of the posts I see, if they list any distro, list Mandrake. I have four "Linuces", RH9/RH7.2/SuSE 9.x/ Mandrake 9.1 and W98SE (plus nominally a sixth, SMSQ [Tebby] for Sinclair QL, which really is a simulator under W98). RH gets no such message, nor did SuSE while I had it running. W98 states no problem with partition table that I can see. A pattern? Hopefully getting Mandrake 10.1 and SuSE 9.3 Pro will solve that and other niggling problems.
