Mandrake 9.1 with 1gig of RAM

Someone told me that since I have 1 gig of RAM, I would have to press F1 to install Mandrake 9.1 then type "vga=0" because of a bug. Will this option, make the install be in text mode only or something? Also, I would like to know if this will change something after the install ? (low resolution, slowness, or something like that?)

Cheers,

I have no idea what the vga=0 option will bring, but I'd just like to say that I've installed Mandrake 9.1 on TWO 1 gig RAM machines - without any problem whatsoever :D

Cheers!

I think it's a problem with video cards that have at least 128mb of memory (which mine has). Also, I looked in the mandrake bugzilla and it looks like if you put the option "mem=880" there're no problems. But I would like to be able to use all the memory I just bought! :( Anyone knows what consequences the "vga=0" option will give?

Cheers,

Error scenario: Booting the installer, a machine with a lot of memory (1GB or more) hangs with flashing caps/scroll lock LEDs (Bugzilla #3198).
Why: It seems as though there is framebuffer trouble with certain video cards on machines with a high amount of memory.
Solution: At the installer splash screen when you first boot off the CD or floppy disks, press F1 and type "linux vga=0".

I know that I have to type "vga=0". What I'm asking is what this option does. I suppose it will give crappy graphics or something like this? will it just affect the install or also after?

I ve heard that it'll give you a low resolution GUI install - once installed I think you can get back to normal resolutions such as 800*600 16 bit etc ...........

Code:

      vga=<mode>
This specifies the VGA text mode that should  be  selected  when
booting.  It may be specified as a global option.  The following
values are recognized (case is ignored):

normal: select normal 80x25 text mode.

extended (or ext): select 80x50 text mode.

ask: stop and ask for user input (at boot time).

<number>: use the corresponding text mode. A list  of  available
modes  can  be  obtained  by  booting  with vga=ask and pressing
              [Enter].

If this variable is omitted, the VGA mode setting  contained  in
the kernel image is used. (And that is set at compile time using
the SVGA_MODE variable in the kernel Makefile, and can later  be
              changed with the rdev(8) program.)

Redhat works just fine on 1 gig of RAM
