Mandrake 9.1 video problem

Hello,

When I install Mandrake 9.1, I am able to pick KDE configure mail in the wizzard then click OK, or finish then the screen goes away. It will not come back. We go to xf86config and cannot get it to come up regardless of the settings.

Hmm, try starting X from the console, then try again and see what error messages X spat out. To restart X at any time press ctrl+alt+backspace. I have to do it twice sometimes...

it's only been stuff like bugs in games that crashed X for me in the past...

I am not given a chance to get into the console, I have used ctrl+alt+backspace several times. After it crashes there is no bring it back with out a complete reinstall. I have gone to xf86config many times and have gone from the bare minimum for the card and monitor up to their max. still it kicks it back.
could I possibly have bad C-Ds .
Thanks digger

have you tried ctrl+alt+F1 to F6?

F1 to F6 are text concoles, F7 is X. You can be logged on more than once as the same user, this isn't a problem for LINUX.

If you disable the "dm" service from starting on boot then you'll be booted to a text console. From there the commands "X" or "startx" will fire X up, and "kde" or "startkde" will, well, start KDE.

Hi,

Still no luck. It is going to get one last reinstall then that's it. I will not be able to get back to it though till late Sunday night.
Thank You,
