Mandrake 9.1 on HP laptop-insmod'ing module ohci1493 failed at /usr/bin/perl-install.

I have an HP Pavilion ze1250 laptop running on an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ processor. I've got Mandrake 9.1 installed, but received this error: insmod'ing module ohci1493 failed at /usr/bin/perl-install.pm line 409 during the installation.....I searched the internet but couldn't find a similar situation with any type of solution.....

Then machine boots and is ok for a little while but eventually frreezes...

Answered my own question. It is the driver for Firewire...which I am not concerend about.......I think the machine freezing may be an issue with the display driver....I need to check the logs......

jimstrailer: There have been many reports of the ze1250 laptops freezing up after a bit. It appears to be fixable with a BIOS upgrade, but if I remember correctly, you can only upgrade the BIOS through windows. I set mine up by resizing the NTFS winXP partition down to 12G with the Mandrake 9.1 boot disc. Then I installed RedHat 9 on the newly freed up space. (Debian did NOT like this laptop at all) All hardware runs great, though you have to specifically tell it that you're using a 1024x768 LCD in the display settings, otherwise it sticks you with 800x600. The only complaint I have with it so far is the fact that it sucks the battery down way too fast. Going to try to get speedstep stuff working on it.

Hope this helps.

Mandrake 9.1 has been running smoothly on the laptop for a week now. I had upgraded the BIOS when XP was still on it, so I am good there. The only issue is that on two occassions when running the hardware detection search from the Mandrake Control Center the machine froze, but other than those two instances it has been fast and stable.

And best of all, Windows is GONE.

I only have to tolerate it at work now.

Thanks for the post.
