I am new to Linux and have chosen Mandrake 9.1 to run along side Windows XP Pro. When I boot up my computer and it goes into the install for Mandrake 9.1 and asks to start installation <enter> or more options <F1>, I press enter and the loading bar finishes then my screen goes blank. I am looking forward to joining the Linux community and any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm assuming you've tried to install it several times, each time met with a freeze? Or did you simply try it once, have it freeze and give up?
I've experienced freezes during the Mandrake 9.1 install process. I've also gotten kernel errors during the second stage install.
I'm guessing the reason for these issues has to do with the fact that I downloaded the ISOs and burned them to disk. The disks are wearing out rather quickly. I usually take the disk out, wipe it off really good, put it back in, and try it again.
Yes I have tried to install multiple times, about 8. I also downloaded the ISOs and burned them, so I will try cleaning the disks and installing again.
Thanks

There is always the tall tales of corrupted downloads. That might have happened. I know in MDK 9.1, the install spent about 10 minutes where it seemed to be doing nothing, and then kicked right back in again. I find the first 10-15 minutes are best to just let it be, there really isn't much user input to be done anyways.
