Mandrake 9.1 - blank screen with graphical install??
Guys,
OK. Did the redhat9 thing - could not install enlightenment and gave it the heave-ho. Now, I try to install Mandrake9.1 on my desktop and I can't get graphical install to work (nforce2, geforce4 4200). Worked FINE on my laptop (geforce2 to go). Jeezus - I DO get the screen that gives me the option to do a text install (my only option) but why the h@ll do things go south for the rest of the graphical install????? godalmighty - linux=wierd, I guess that's why it's appealing ;) Help, anyone? |
Your card should be supported; my 9.1 reports the option for 'geforce4 generic'.

I donno if the default xf86config would help or not, but do give it a try, but please back up your /etc/X11/XF86Config or XF86Config-4 file (just cp it to some other name)
when u are in the login screen, press ctrl+alt+1 to go to tty01 and login there (as root) then type xf86config. follow those instructions. if you are really good at editing that cursed file ;) use an editor and edit the device section and make it choose the geforce 4 generic chipset there... i donno the proper parameters, i guess some of us can help u here. after u think you're done, get back to the X server by pressing ctrl+alt+f7 and login, then type X or startx or xinit, you should be in there. |
Cripe. I read somewhere it's best to DISABLE ACPI in the bios. B frigin S. I can't even get my machine to RUN without ACPI. Problem fixed!
