Mandrake 9.1 blank screen

Just installed Mandrake 9.1...
once it loads all the services at startup, my screen just turn black, empty and idle from there. If i'm not mistaken, it went blank after starting dm.

I wonder what could be the problem here.

Please help me to get started.

Can you get to any of the first six consoles?

Ummm.... first 6 consoles???

Well, anyway I finally get to login now. I don know it works but I restart the machine several times and do Interactive startup.

Just wanna know, when the system hang and u practically canīt do anything, so should just press RESET button on the comp or POWER button to reboot? I tried couple of time by hitting the POWER button and all I get is, blank screen and canīt move further. Then just power off the switch and wait couple of minutes and turn on the POWER again. Then, only able to see the BIOS startup... is it normal?

The consoles I am referring to are the "black screen" logins. If you push the ctrl-alt-Fn (where n = 1-6) you will be able to login to a console. I had a similar problem with an old machine running RedHat, it would boot up ok, but when it tried to start X it would just go blank and hang.

My suggestion is to set your machine up so you have to start X manually. Constantly rebooting to get into the X display is a bad route to have to take.

So to do that you need to change your default run level. I suggest searching around the forums for how to change the default run level in Mandrake.
