Question Mandrake 9.0 Screen Flashing

Hi, I have recently installed Mandrake 9.0. Everything is fine except for the fact that the screen flashes when I enter X. It will flash steadily then stop for a few minutes and start again. I then took it off and installed RehHat 8.0 and it worked fine. I went back to Mandrake and the same problem occured. I assume that Mandrake is setting up my video card wrong.

Dell Optiplex GXa PII 266
128Meg of Ram
ATI 3D Rage Pro (on board)(2Meg of ram I think)

1 more thing, when I goto the Display config it shows up as a Mach 64 Ultra. Thats what it finds, I change it to 3D Rage Pro with no difference.

Your help is appreciated.

EDIT: Just thought I would add, I did a searchof the forum and found others are having similar problems, although none of the solutions helped me. I might just go back to RedHat, it worked. I would like to use Mandrake as I am told it is the friendliest for n00bs like me

Personally, I'd stick with Redhat but that's another forum :-)

Try to find out if the XFree version is the same or different as the one on your Redhat. You want to try to eliminate the causes. Of course, if the versions are the same then there must be something else operating system-wise (kernel, frame buffers etc...).

When at all possible its good to use xf86config from the command line to make your X config file. Sometimes even when it appears that the install druid did everything right there can still be problems.

Good Luck.
