Mandrake 8.2 error
Hello there...
I am getting this error after i have installed Mandrake 8.2 This error happens when i type in startx to i can get into the GUI, I have just installed this new Distro and still haven`t managed to get it running right... execve failed for /etc/x11/x (errno 2) giving up. xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error. I had found someone else with the same error but i wasnt able to follow the fix directions due to my less knowledge of the CLI. My problem is I'm very new on Linux...New like only had Redhat 7.1 running for three days....with constant problems...So i was told Mandrake 8.2 was the best Distro for me... So i ended up downloading it and now having these errors... Spec: AMD 1.1Ghz - 128 mb sdram - S3 8mb AGP Trio video - Monitor is just some old Generic make 50 to 60hz... I would greatly appreciate if you or someone else could explain it to me in simply term please... Sorry I'm so confused here and really wanting to get running on Linux and learn all the great reason`s for switching from Win2k to Linux... Thank you.... |
seems to me your X server wasn't correctly setup
or is corrupted. run the XFdrake program to set it up or run it like XFdrake --noauto --expert if know what you are doing There are many ways like; editting the XF86config-4 file by hand, or run xf86config but this is good for starters as XFdrake is mdk 8.2 default program to set it up adding the line mem=nopentium for an AMD processor in lilo.conf (after the append=" ' line) is a good thing for stability if you got X to work |
Thanks for that i will try that soon, after i have fix my machine.it seems that the power supply has bugged up..:(
will get back to u... |
